James Kirchick

Bio:

James is a writer and foreign correspondent based in Central Europe, and a contributing editor to World Affairs Journal. He is a fellow with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and an adjunct fellow of the Center for European Policy Analysis. Prior to joining FDD, he was writer-at-large for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, reporting on the politics and cultures of the 21 countries in RFE/RL’s broadcast region. Among the stories he covered were the fraudulent 2010 presidential election in Belarus, ethnic cleansing in Kyrgyzstan, and the Libyan Civil War.  For over three years, Kirchick worked at The New Republic, covering domestic politics, intelligence, and American foreign policy, and he remains a contributing editor to the magazine. He writes frequently for many periodicals including Newsweek, CommentaryThe Weekly StandardThe American InterestThe Virginia Quarterly ReviewThe Columbia Journalism ReviewProspectForeign Policy, Index on Censorship, and Policy Review, among others.
